WP Score Sevens Finals Finally here

It’s a big weekend for WP Club Rugby clubs, players, and fans as the WP Score Club Rugby Sevens heads into the final day at Kraaifontein this Saturday.

After two rounds of sevens action with more than eight hundred players from forty clubs taking to the field, this weekend now sees the top sixteen into the final round and finals to determine who takes the bragging rights as the best Sevens Rugby clubs in Western Province.

The annual WP Score Club Sevens saw three regions play across six pools with the top two in region one and two, and the top three in region three, going through to the final day set for this Saturday. In region one, we saw former champions Bellville and Tygerberg come through in position one, while Helderberg and St Georges went unbeaten in region two, as did Hamilton’s in region three.

This event this Saturday starts with a shotgun start in Kraaifontein across two fields at 12:30 with Durbel up against Collegians and Bellville against Kuilsriver, followed by Tygerberg versus Hands and Heart, and False Bay versus Kylemore. The winners from these matches go through to the cup quarter-finals which start at 14:18, while the losers go into the Shield Quarter Finals scheduled for 13:42.

The matches will then be followed by the Bowl and Plate Semi-Finals scheduled for 14:54 and 15:30 respectively.

The WP Score Club Sevens, sponsored for the seventh consecutive year, has again proven to be a showcase of the best of WP Club Rugby Sevens rugby talent and entertainment, and has again shown how Western Province Rugby contributes to social cohesion. The event provides an opportunity for players from several regions, leagues, and suburbs to bond and share a common experience.

There is no doubt that the seasons ahead will again see several teams decked out in their unique Score Jerseys, as this unique WP Club Rugby event provides the opportunity not only for playing attire but also the enormous continued exposure for Score Energy drinks and the clubs via our media partners such as Cape Rugby TV, which provides guaranteed team jersey exposure.

The WP Score Club Sevens Bowl, Plate, and Shield finals are scheduled from 16:00 onwards with the Cup Final set for just after 17:00. We strongly recommend all our members, family, and friends get down to Kraaifontein for this spectacular event which again promises to deliver plenty of entertainment.

On a final note, we are thrilled with the volume of enrolment for our World Rugby Level one coaching course, which is exclusively for Women and rolls out at Newlands this weekend. This dedicated course again shows the focused manner in which WP Rugby has managed to achieve such major growth in Women’s rugby to date. Our next course is the World Rugby level two course on 1 December 2023; applicants can sign up here.
