WP Rugby’s coaching education programme for the first part of the 2026 season will run from January to June and offers World Rugby–aligned courses in Fifteens, Sevens, and Strength and Conditioning. The programme is open to coaches from clubs, high schools and primary schools, and is designed to support coach development across all levels of the game.
The programme includes World Rugby Level 1 and Level 2 Fifteens coaching courses, a Level 1 Sevens coaching course, and a Level 1 Strength and Conditioning course. All courses will be hosted at Newlands and require coaches to be registered on World Rugby Passport and to complete the relevant online prerequisite modules before attending. Certification is dependent on full attendance and completion of these requirements.
Course dates for the first half of 2026 are as follows:
- Friday, 06 February 2026 – World Rugby Level 1 Fifteens Coaching Course (12:00–19:00). A one-day attendance course focused on session planning, basic technical skills, the laws of the game, and safe coaching practices.
- Friday, 13 February 2026 – World Rugby Level 2 Fifteens Coaching Course (Day 1, 12:00–19:00). The first day of the two-day programme covering coaching philosophy, technical and tactical principles, and session design.
- Saturday, 14 February 2026 – World Rugby Level 2 Fifteens Coaching Course (Day 2, 08:00–15:00). Practical coaching delivery, set-piece coaching, and assessment preparation.
- Friday, 27 March 2026 – World Rugby Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Course (12:00–18:00). A one-day course focusing on safe and effective physical preparation for rugby, including age-appropriate conditioning principles.
- Friday, 10 April 2026 – World Rugby Level 1 Fifteens Coaching Course (12:00–19:00). Repeat offering of the Level 1 Fifteens programme for coaches unable to attend earlier sessions.
- Friday, 24 April 2026 – World Rugby Level 1 Sevens Coaching Course (12:00–18:00). An attendance-based course covering the principles of Sevens rugby, decision-making, game understanding, and practical coaching delivery.
- Friday, 15 May 2026 – World Rugby Level 1 Fifteens Coaching Course (12:00–19:00). Additional opportunity for coaches entering the game or progressing through the coaching pathway.
- Friday, 19 June 2026 – World Rugby Level 1 Fifteens Coaching Course (12:00–19:00). Final Level 1 Fifteens course for the first half of the 2026 season.
Applications and payments must be completed at least one week before the relevant course date. Places are limited per course, and coaches are encouraged to plan ahead to secure attendance.
