WP Clubs testing combinations and African Bank on board

As we get closer to the official start of the WP Club Rugby season on 4 April 2020 we see several of our clubs testing their combinations in friendlies across the Western Province.

In addition to a day of rugby at Kraaifontein RFC with six clubs in action, we see more than twenty-five endorsed friendlies in action, starting at Kylemore this Friday as they host Belhar. Saturday includes some matches against former foes such as Tygerberg vs Paarl and Kuilsriver vs St Georges and Villager vs Helderberg.

We have a number of matches where we see neighbours and compatriots arrange to play against each other. Matches such as Sir Lowrians vs Gordon Leopards, Pniel Villagers vs Paarl Rangers, Young Peoples vs Albions and Eersterivier vs All Saints are certainly recognisable with a derby feel.

Kraaifontein hosts their Jan du Toit Rugby day this weekend with the u21’s starting this Friday followed by senior matches on Saturday. Kraaifontein will test themselves against Busy Bees, Brackenfell against Uni-Mil and the main match between Durbell and Hamiltons.

In the Varsity Cup, Maties were put to the test against Tuks but came out on top with a 13-7 win at the Danie Craven stadium on Monday while UCT also had a close call against Wits but came away with a 10-10 draw. Both remain in second and third respectively on the Varsity Cup log after five weeks. UWC had a bye this past week and will be looking forward to their match against CUT this coming Monday. Fans can lookout for an old classic intervarsity feel match as Maties host UCT.

CPUT remain third on the Varsity Shield log and next week host Rhodes at the CPUT sport grounds.

This past Wednesday coach Jerome Paarwater hosted a specialist defence workshop for WP Club Rugby coaches at the HPC in Bellville which saw more than forty WP Club Rugby coaches in attendance. After a session of theory, the coaches moved to the field to see the techniques put into practice as demonstrated by CPUT.

On the commercial front, we are thrilled to announce the continuation of our relationship with African Bank. Please see the official press release.
