The Western Province Club Rugby season shifts into knockout mode this weekend as the Top Six Championships begin across Super League A, B, and C. After months of league action, the top six sides in each division now fight it out for the ultimate prize — the league title in their respective competitions.
Super League A
The final standings saw Villager (1st) and Durb-Bell (2nd) secure byes straight into the semifinals, leaving the middle and lower seeds to battle in the quarterfinals.
- False Bay (3rd) vs SK Walmers (6th) – At Philip Herbstein Sports Ground, False Bay will aim to make their higher seeding count, but SK Walmers will be looking to upset the odds.
- Hamiltons (4th) vs UCT (5th) – Stephen Oval hosts a classic clash between two old rivals. With just one place separating them on the log, this promises to be one of the tightest fixtures of the round.
Super League B
Primrose (1st) and Kraaifontein (2nd) advanced directly to the semifinals, while the rest line up for two intriguing quarterfinals.
- Franschhoek (3rd) vs Collegians (6th) – Franschhoek’s consistency over the season earned them home advantage at Groendal, but Collegians will arrive hungry to prove themselves.
- Belhar (4th) vs Goodwood (5th) – Erica Park will witness a clash of close neighbours on the table. Belhar edged 4th, but Goodwood’s resilience could make this anyone’s game.
Super League C
Young Peoples (1st) and All Saints (2nd) secured their semifinal places, while the next four face off in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
- Gardens (3rd) vs Pniel Villagers (6th) – Oranjezicht hosts this matchup, with Gardens looking to build on their strong finish against a Villagers side determined to rise from 6th place.
- Violets (4th) vs Rangers (5th) – Chukker Road will be buzzing as Violets and Rangers go head-to-head. With just one log spot between them, this game could swing either way.
What’s Next
The winners from each quarterfinal will progress to the semifinals, which will all be staged at City Park on Saturday, 13 September. From there, the victors will meet in the Top Six Championship finals on Saturday, 20 September, also at City Park.
These Top Six challenges will ultimately decide the league winners in Super League A, B, and C — ensuring the next two weekends will be the most decisive and exciting of the WP Club Rugby season.
