This weekend sees another Women’s Rugby festival roll out at City Park with women’s U20 testing tomorrow from 10h00. This presents an amazing opportunity not only for the young women to get more serious experience but also to see the development within our U20 women structures and provide additional exposure for coaches coaching girls’ rugby.
Last week in Super League A, 3rd place Durbell went down to Helderberg 38-48. This week, Durbell will be looking to bounce back as they host Uni-Mil, who will also be looking to fix matters after their loss to Hamiltons. False Bay narrowly lost to second placed Stellenbosch while Brackenfell defeated NTK 45-20. This week, NTK hosts St Georges at Jan Burger Sports Complex, this will be St Georges first away game since the opening match and there is no doubt the Lulu Boys fans will travel. Helderberg hosts SK Walmers, and False Bay hosts Kuilsriver. False Bay will be dangerous at home, but the Kuila boys will bring their A-game as they look to get their first log points on the board.
In Super League B, Kraaifontein edged out Franschhoek 27-23. Kraaifontein is 4th, and Franschhoek is 6th. All Saints were defeated by Hamediehs 12-38 and this week face Hands & Heart at Eikendal Sports Grounds. Langa plays Franschhoek at Langa Stadium. Collegians triumphed over Hands & Heart 27-23. Super League B is packed this weekend, but fans will be excited for the match between Collegians and Hamediehs, which will be a big draw. Both teams will be brimming with confidence after last week’s wins. Adding to the spectacle, this will be Hamediehs’ first game at home. Other Super League B matches include Bellville traveling to Strand and Kraaifontein to Hamlets.
Primrose defeated Atlantis 38-17. Primrose is unbeaten, and Atlantis is 10th. This week, Primrose will face the unbeaten Pniel Villagers at Pniel Sports Grounds. Masiphumelele lost to Pniel Villagers 17-29. Busy Bee narrowly beat Rangers 27-20. Busy Bee is 6th, and Rangers are 8th. This week, Gardens will play against Eersterivier at Oranjezicht. Masiphumelele will face Rangers, Macassar goes to Scottsdene, and Primrose takes on 2nd placed Pniel Villagers.
Last week in the City League competition, Silvertree faced off against Elsies River United in a match that ended 7-13, favoring Elsies River United. Elsies River United remains second on the log. Violets beat Morning Star, moving them to 3rd. This week, Violets will face Police, who are currently 7th, at Terry Terblanche. Caledonian Roses continued their strong performance by defeating Police 36-11, maintaining their position at the top of the log. This week also sees Manenberg Rangers take on Young Ideas at Primrose Park.
In the Metro League, Silverleaf narrowly lost to Imiqhayi 6-9, with Imiqhayi remaining unbeaten. Lamotte-Wanderers were defeated by Khayelitsha 13-20. Bishop Lavis emerged victorious against Perseverance. This week, Fisantekraal will face Silverleaf, Khayelitsha faces Bishop Lavis, Thistles host Temperance and Cities, while it’s a derby between Perseverance and Progress at City Park.
Last weekend in the Northern League, Albions remained unbeaten with a 38-22 win over Gordons Bay Pioneers. Windmeul United narrowly lost to Excelsior 29-32. Windmeul United, now fourth on the log, will clash with Whistling Wheels, who are 9th, at Windmeul Primary School. Delft stay top of the log after their win against Stell Corr. Sir Lowrians will go head-to-head against Albions, while Excelsior will be looking to bounce back when they host Raithby Universals.
In the Paarl Region, Lower Paarl is top of the log, followed by Riverstones, Paarl Rangers, and Young Gardens. This week, Paarl Rangers will face Simondium at Daljosafat. Young Gardens will take on Allandale, and Riverstones will compete against Lower Paarl at Daljosafat, while Perel United hosts Violets Paarl.
In the Southern League, Watsonia defeated Peninsula 22-5 to remain unbeaten. Lagunya lost to Rocklands 26-32, leaving Rocklands also unbeaten. This week, Peninsula will face Lagunya at Sandvlei. Retreat will face Watsonia at Allenby Drive. Northerns play against Titans at Avonwood Park, with Northerns ranked 5th and Titans 3rd. Young Stars will face Young Wesleys.
Our WP Rugby referees department will host their World Rugby Introduction to Officiating Level One course at Brackenfell Primary School this weekend. Topics include Rugby Ready, Laws of the Game, Concussion Management, and Boksmart. By all accounts, this course is loaded, and we look forward to seeing an additional generation of rugby referees coming into the circle.
