Women’s High Performance Coaching moves to next level and Juniors on way to Summer games

Following the success of the Score WP Club Rugby Sevens, our rugby activities continue with coaching, women’s rugby development, youth games, and DHL Stormers action at the DHL Stadium.

Following the enormous success of the WP Rugby Women’s Team, The YTC programmes and the uptake of the Women’s Collective we’re proud to announce the continuation of the WP Women’s Rugby High-Performance coaches development programme. The three-year programme is designed for talented female rugby coaches and players who wish to enter into the rugby coaching space. The programme which resumes at Newlands next week is structured in a manner that will grow Women beginner, school, club and elite women rugby coaches.

As the continuation of our previous high performance for women programme, and having concluded the World Rugby Level 1 coaching courses we now move to level 2 next week with twenty-five women coaches earmarked for the course facilitated by our WP Rugby coaches education department.

Next week sees a number of our young players including seven u15 girls join the Department Cultural Affairs and Sport Summer games squad at the Western Cape Sport School in Cape Town before they depart for the games to be held in Gauteng on 15 December 2021. Our players join the Western Cape Provincial u15’s Sevens teams.

Our DHL WP Rugby Currie Cup side continues to work hard as they prepare for the Currie Cup which starts early January next year. The squad will depart for a training camp in Hermanus on 5 January 2021.

On the club front, several of our clubs continue to remain active as many are planning social events and some clubs looking at inter-club Sevens Rugby matches. In addition, all our universities are working hard in preparation for the FNB Varsity Cup which sees the first fixtures commence in early February 2021.

We remind our clubs that still need to get their Lotto fund application in to do so urgently before the Lotto application window closes.

Following the cancellation of some international matches, our DHL Stormers will face the Emirates Lions at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town this coming Saturday, kick-off at 17h00. The Cell C Sharks will host the Vodacom Bulls in Durban on Friday evening (19h00 kick-off at Jonsson Kings Park).

These matches which were originally scheduled for February form part of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship and have now been brought forward. We wish our team the best of luck.
