We are excited to announce that the Score Western Province Club Rugby Sevens kicks off this weekend! After much anticipation, the event everyone has been waiting for kicks off this Saturday, 2 November 2024, at 10 am, at the Villagers Rugby Football club. With thirty-five teams competing across five pools, this year’s tournament promises three weeks filled with thrilling rugby action and fierce competition.
This year’s lineup of competing teams features Albions, Atlantis, Bellville, Bishop Lavis, Brackenfell, Busy Bees, Collegians, Delft, Drakenstein, Eersterivier, Elsies River United, False Bay, Fisantekraal, Gardens, Goodwood, Hamiltons, Hands & Heart, Kraaifontein, Kuilsriver, Kylemore, Macassar, NTK, Peninsula, Pniel Villagers, Police, Silverleaf, St Georges, Strand, Strand United, Titans, Tygerberg, Union Milnerton, Villager, Whistling Wheels, and Young Peoples.
As a premier event on the Western Province Club Rugby calendar, the Score Sevens embodies the values of community support, development, and empowerment. For many clubs, it serves as an opportunity to showcase talent and maintain engagement after the league season. It’s a rare chance for clubs from different regions and divisions to compete, fostering both intense rivalry and camaraderie.
Earlier this week, we held the annual draw at Newlands Stadium adding to the excitement, and setting the stage for this prestigious tournament. The event, hosted by Cape Rugby TV presenter JP Naude, featured Score Energy Drinks Brand Manager Monye Shumba, who spoke passionately about the brand’s alignment with the Score Sevens and their dedication to supporting community rugby. We were also pleased to welcome Mr. Reggie Amos from CTC Sports, a key partner who has ensured that each team has customized jerseys for the tournament. With CTC Sports’ continued support, the Score Sevens proudly marks its ninth year on the Western Province Club Rugby calendar.
In the tournament’s format, the top three teams from each pool, along with the highest-ranked fourth-place team, will advance to the top 16 ultimately leading to the Plate, Shield, Bowl, and Cup finals.
