Day one last weekend showcased the excitement the Score Sevens brings, with thirty-five teams from across the province sporting their new Score jerseys and hitting the field to display some fantastic Sevens skills.
With teams divided across five pools, Day one at Villagers did not disappoint, and several teams have already made an early mark. In Pool A, Hamiltons, Hands and Heart, and Young Peoples rose to the occasion, taking the top three spots respectively. Busy Bees, despite a rocky start, quickly showed they remain contenders for a spot on the log.
In Pool B, NTK claimed the top position, followed by Pniel Villagers and Union Milnerton. Meanwhile, in Pool C, Villagers and Atlantis lead jointly for first and second, with Gardens close behind in third. Pool D saw St Georges, Tygerberg, and Kylemore leading the log, with Goodwood in fourth. Goodwood currently holds the highest rank of all fourth-placed teams and, as it stands, would be the sixteenth team to progress.
False Bay brought a full contingent of management, including a physio team, and finished first in Pool E, with Brackenfell and Strand in second and third, respectively.
With most teams playing between three and four matches on the day, the opening week saw teams warming up to the occasion, while friends and fans enjoyed the lively Sevens rugby spirit.
Week two kicks off again at Villagers this week, with the first match starting at 10:00 across both fields. We anticipate another action-packed day as teams go head-to-head for those coveted top three spots.
