Player Registration and Movement Cut-Off Date for WP Rugby Clubs

Following consultation with key stakeholders, including union members, the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) has announced an important update to player registration and movement for all WP Rugby clubs ahead of the upcoming season.

The registration and movement cut-off date has been set for 14 February. From this date, any player registered with a club will be bound to that club for the remainder of the season, regardless of whether the player has taken part in a match or not.

This represents a change from previous seasons, where players were only tied to a club once they had played in a fixture. Under the updated rule, a player’s registration status on the cut-off date is now the determining factor in whether they may move between clubs.

Players who are considering a change of club must therefore ensure that their registration is finalised before 14 February. After this date, no player movement will be permitted if a player is registered to a club.

All WP Rugby clubs are urged to communicate this update clearly to their players to avoid uncertainty once the season begins and to ensure a smooth and well-managed start to the competition.
