Nearly one hundred and fifty club matches set, thrilling games, referees call to education action

This weekend, nearly one hundred and fifty club matches are set to take place, promising some thrilling games. We will deliver yet another World Rugby Level 1 coaching course, and our Women’s Rugby trials continue while we see our WP Rugby Referees Society roll out their education.

In Super League A, we witnessed some nail-biting matches last week. Uni-Mil narrowly defeated UCT 28-26, False Bay secured a 17-13 win over Tygerberg at Ravensmead, Hamiltons triumphed 13-7 over Stellenbosch, and Helderberg edged out St Georges 27-25 at Gustrow. These results position Hamiltons at the top of the log as the only unbeaten club in Super League A.

The passion for club rugby is clearly running high, with fans turning out in droves to support their teams and enjoy high-quality rugby and well-organized events. This weekend’s top clashes include log leaders Hamiltons versus 3rd placed Uni-Mil, both coming off wins over university teams. NTK will aim to maintain momentum when they travel to Brackenfell, and Tygerberg will look to please their fans when they host UCT. Villagers will go into their match against SK Walmers at Green Point Track with the upper hand but know that playing there is never easy.

In Super League B, UWC’s narrow three-point win over Belhar keeps them at the top of the log. However, Hands and Hearts’ close win over Hamlets is keeping the pressure on the leaders. Van der Stel, in third place, remains unbeaten with a game in hand. This weekend, UWC will face Vineyards at UWC Sports Stadium, All Saints will play against Hamediehs at Helderzicht Sports Grounds, Kraaifontein will take on Franschhoek at Kraaifontein Sports Grounds, Kylemore will host Strand, and Collegians will take on Langa at Collegians Sports Ground.

In Super League C, Strand United faces Gardens at Abattoir Sports Grounds, Busy Bee will face Rangers who, although having played only two matches thus far, are unbeaten, as is Pniel Villagers who travel to Noordhoek to face Masiphumelele. Look out for the match between Primrose and Atlantis.

In the City League, Violets secured a dominant 32-10 victory over Manenberg Rangers, scoring five tries and maintaining a 100% win rate. Callies’ big win over Young Ideas keeps them level at the top of the log with Elsies River United, while Morning Star came out on top with a 22-14 victory over Police. This weekend, Violets, now 3rd on the log with 15 points, will face 4th placed Morning Star at Chukker Road, log leaders Caledonian Roses will go up against Police at Noll Avenue, and Silvertree will face 2nd on the log Elsies River United at Malta Park.

In the Northern League, Excelsior secured a 20-13 win over Whistling Wheels, Raithby fell to Albions, and Delft beat Windmeul United 57-24, keeping them at the top of the log with a 100% win rate alongside Stellenbosch Coronations. This weekend, Windmeul United will face Excelsior, Albions face Gordons Bay Pioneers and it’s a top of the table clash as log leaders Delft face 2nd place Stellenbosch Corronations.

In the Paarl Region, a classic derby saw Lower Paarl triumph over Rangers 31-14, remaining the only unbeaten team in the region. Young Gardens are second on the log after their win over Perel United. This weekend’s matches include Allandale versus Violets Paarl 6th at Drakenstein, Simondium versus Lower Paarl at Simondium Primary, and Paarl Rangers against Perel United at Daljosafat.

The Southern League sees Young Wesleys, Northerns, and Young Stars unbeaten at the top of the log, with Titans in fourth after their 34-0 win over Lagunya. This weekend, Retreat will face Titans at Allenby Drive, Lagunya will host Rocklands at Nyanga Stadium, and log leaders Young Wesleys will host Peninsula at Barnes Camp in Philippi.
