League season now in full swing as clubs ready for another weekend

This weekend, nearly 150 club rugby matches are set to unfold, painting a clearer picture of the season after last weekend’s revealing results. Super League A delivered some intense matchups, with UCT narrowly losing to False Bay 29-35. Stellenbosch secured a dominant 48-17 victory over Tygerberg, while NTK clinched a close 19-17 win against SK Walmers at the Green Point Track while neighbours Hamiltons scored a 36-3 win over CPUT.

Super League B offered a variety of outcomes. Belhar and All Saints fought to a 19-19 draw. Franschhoek triumphed over Strand 27-16, and Van Der Stel overtook Bellville 34-29. Hands & Heart edged out Kraaifontein 19-18 in a thrilling derby and taking the ragging rights, while UWC defeated Kylemore 56-8.

Super League C saw its share of competition, with Macassar decisively beating Blue Jets 33-5. Young Peoples narrowly defeated Masiphumelele 17-13, and Atlantis edged out Strand United 24-21. Rangers won 17-14 over Gardens, and Scottsdene secured a 25-12 victory against Busy Bee. Primrose fell to Goodwood 17-35.

City League, Metro League, and Paarl Region also featured significant matches, with results like Manenberg Rangers beating Caledonian Roses 21-10, and Lower Paarl’s win over Perel United highlighting the action.

This weekend Super League A features UCT looking to bounce back against Uni-Mil. Villagers, buoyed by their recent win mid-week win over UCT, will face Brackenfell. Other highlights include False Bay vs Tygerberg and the derby between Helderberg and St Georges at Gustrow is set to thrill, while Stellenbosch number one on the log and Hamiltons number two on the log clash in a top of the table matchup. SK Walmers aims to recover against Kuilsriver at Jagtershof.

Super League B sees Hamlets facing Hands & Heart at Eikendal, and UWC battling Belhar in a pivotal match for the standings. Other matches include Van Der Stel vs Vineyards and Kylemore against Bellville.

Super League C has Primrose taking on Young Peoples and Eersterivier will play Scottsdene, while Gardens looks to rebound against Busy Bee. A top-table clash will see Macassar face Goodwood.

In City League, matchups include Manenberg Rangers vs Violets and Caledonian Roses against Young Ideas. Metro League features Lamotte-Wanderers vs Imiqhayi and Perseverance against Silverleaf.

Fans can lookout for some great rugby action in the Paarl Region, Young Gardens host Perel United, Allandale host Young Standards and Violets Paarl host Simondium.

As it is still early days on the Western Province Club Rugby Calendar for many clubs, this weekend will be a turning point as to their goals for the season, where some clubs will still be aiming for the top six on the log others will already be saying that the important factor is to avoid the relegation zone at the bottom of the log.

On the women’s rugby front, our DHL Women’s Rugby team continues to grow stronger following their big win over the Golden Lions Women’s Rugby Team at City Park last week and a highlight for the day was a number of our club rugby women players registered and playing in trials at City Park before the main game, and we are enthusiastic about expanding our database of women players.
