28 July 2025

It was another action-packed weekend in Western Province Club Rugby, with several key fixtures across all leagues played on Saturday, 26 July 2025. With only a few rounds remaining in most competitions, every point counts, and this weekend’s results have certainly shaken up the standings in some divisions.

In Super League A, Durb-Bell continued their dominant run with a massive 70–14 away win over Kuilsrivier, scoring 10 tries in the process and securing a bonus point. This emphatic result keeps them firmly at the top of the log with 54 points. Villager also kept the pressure on with a commanding 52–10 home victory over Van Der Stel, scoring eight tries and maintaining second place. Hamiltons suffered a narrow 40–36 away loss to Union Milnerton, a result that allowed False Bay to draw level with them on 42 points after their bye. SK Walmers edged Tygerberg 41–27 in a high-scoring affair, helping them climb to fifth on the log. Meanwhile, UWC’s 55–33 away win over St Georges saw them move up to 12th, overtaking Stellenbosch. Brackenfell’s 31–12 away win at Helderberg was crucial, lifting them to 10th and pushing Helderberg down to ninth. The battle for the top six is heating up, with Union Milnerton now just one point behind SK Walmers.

Super League B saw a number of tight contests. Primrose claimed a crucial 35–25 away win over Goodwood, scoring five tries and maintaining their top spot with 48 points. Franschhoek also kept pace with a 25–17 win at Hamediehs, staying second with 46 points. Belhar’s 24–18 home win over Collegians moved them up to third, while Kraaifontein dropped to fourth despite not playing. NTK’s 27–22 away win at Bellville keeps them in the hunt, now sitting seventh with 39 points. Macassar secured a 17–8 home win over CPUT, keeping them in sixth place. Vineyards edged Hamlets 41–33 in a try-fest, but remain outside the top six. The top eight in this league are separated by just 11 points, making every upcoming fixture critical.

In Super League C, Young Peoples pulled off a thrilling 35–33 away win over Busy Bees, with both teams scoring five tries. This result helps Young Peoples climb into the top six, displacing Busy Bees. Violets secured a solid 29–16 away win at Delft, scoring four tries and strengthening their mid-table position. Rangers were impressive in their 42–31 home win over Scottsdene, scoring seven tries and moving up the standings. Langa’s 10–3 away win at Strand United was a low-scoring affair but vital for their campaign. The race for promotion spots remains tight, with several teams still in contention.

The Paarl Region saw Paarl Rangers edge Drakenstein 33–26 in a closely contested match. With this win, Paarl Rangers remain second on the log with 47 points, just behind Lower Paarl. Riverstones, who had a bye, are now third but with a game in hand. Drakenstein’s loss sees them remain in sixth, but with pressure mounting from Simondium below them.

In the Promotion League, Watsonia continued their unbeaten run with a 36–19 away win over Masiphumelele, scoring six tries and collecting another bonus point. They remain top of the log with 15 points from three matches. Blue Stars edged Sir Lowrians 17–10 in a tight home contest, moving into the top four. Morning Star’s 26–22 win over Raithby keeps them in the mix, though they remain seventh on the log. The promotion race is wide open, with several teams closely bunched together.

The Challenge Cup delivered a full slate of fixtures. Peninsula were dominant in their 52–11 away win over Bishop Lavis, scoring eight tries and staying top of the log with 10 points. Northerns also impressed with a 41–17 win over Young Ideas, keeping pace with Peninsula. Faure’s 41–25 away win at Titans featured six tries and moved them into fourth place. Windmeul United edged Khayelitsha 24–19, while Cloetesville beat Suburban 29–17. Police-Blackheath were ruthless in their 52–9 win over Imiqhayi, and Silvertree edged Retreat 22–14. Temperance-Cities narrowly beat Whistling Wheels 22–20. The top three teams—Peninsula, Northerns, and Windmeul United—are all on 10 points, separated only by points difference, making the next round crucial.

Across the leagues, several trends are emerging. Durb-Bell and Watsonia continue their unbeaten streaks, showing consistency and depth. On the other hand, teams like St Georges and Bishop Lavis are still searching for their first wins and will be eager to get on the board. The weekend also saw a number of high-scoring games, with bonus points playing a key role in the standings. The tight margins in Super League B and the Challenge Cup suggest that playoff spots will come down to the wire. Coaches will be focusing on discipline and bonus point opportunities as the season enters its final stretch.
