As we gear up for another action-packed weekend in the Western Province club rugby, it’s important to recognize the significant strides made off the field. This week concluded our series of governance workshops, with the final module centering on the crucial aspect of financial governance. The engagement from the clubs in these workshops highlights their commitment to strengthening their foundations for long-term success.

In case you missed some of last week’s results: Goodwood scored a hefty 60-24 win over Langa, Peninsula narrowly lost to Imiqhayi 26-28 in a tight finish, and St Georges showed their might with a 45-6 win over Kuilsriver. Elsies River Utd were edged out by Delft 21-24, while Helderberg had a commanding 38-7 victory against Uni Mil. The contest between Franschhoek and Strand United ended 31-22 in favour of Franschhoek, while Primrose scored a very close margin win over Collegians at City Park in what was again a fantastic showcase of community rugby.

Hands & Heart put on a dominant display against Scottsdene with a 40-7 scoreline. Villagers fell short against False Bay, ending 12-19. Brackenfell and Durbanville had a nail-biting match that concluded 15-14. Stellenbosch-Coronations were just pipped at the post by Riverstones 15-19. Windmeul United triumphed over Perel United 42-28, Blue Stars Utd were overcome by Young Standards 7-14, and Pniel Villagers squeaked past Paarl Rangers with 29-27.

Excelsior showed strength against Retreat, winning 35-7, Hamiltons outplayed Maties with a striking 47-17 victory, and Allandale secured a win over Young Peoples with a 36-19 finish. Kraaifontein narrowly defeated Belhar 34-31, Vineyards fell to Lower Paarl in a close 34-36, Raithby Universals bested Northerns 36-13, and Simondium won against Blakes 18-13. Kylemore had a solid win against Busy Bees 25-5.

This week saw the final opportunity for player season movement, and now ready for another exciting round of friendlies as our clubs head towards the start of the season. Some of the weekend’s fixtures include Goodwood, fresh from their big opener against Langa as they now face Kraaifontein at home. Meanwhile, the Naval Sports Ground in Gordon’s Bay will see the Pioneers, seeking to capitalize on their home-ground advantage against Strand.

At Gustrouw, St Georges will battle against Franschhoek, each team looking to continue their victorious streaks in what’s expected to be a tough battle. Northerns and Scottsdene-Central will square off at Avonwood Park, both eager to put last week’s results behind them and strive for success.

The scene at Durbanville Sports Grounds will be one of intensity as Durbanville-Bellville locks horns with Stellenbosch, with each side aiming to rectify last week’s narrow margins. Young Standards and Retreat face off at the Faure stadium in Paarl, while at the Delft Sports Grounds, Delft will go head-to-head against Fisantekraal, while in Mamre, Hamlets will challenge Belhar, while Eersterivier will face Elsies River at the Kleinvlei sports grounds. Look out for two big derbies as Blue Stars confront Simondium in Klapmuts and Pniel Villagers face Raithby Universals.

At Riverside Park, Macassar will compete against All Saints, and fans can expect plenty of entertainment at Theo Marais Park as Union Milnerton faces Hamiltons.

47th Street will be the backdrop for Silverleaf’s encounter with Police and the Boy Louw field in Paarl will see the tussle between Albions and Young Peoples, with Albions eager to capitalize on their recent win.

Allandale will take on Stellenbosch-Coronations, and the Jagtershof Sports Ground will see Kuilsriver against Kylemore. UCT seconds will play against Langa and at Philip Herbstein False Bay hosts the clash of titans as False Bay squares off with Helderberg, with the latter fresh off a significant win.

The picturesque La Motte Sports Grounds will see La Motte Wanderers versus Violets Paarl, while the Jan Burger sports complex will be where NTK challenges Atlantis.
