DHL Women successful season, Club leadership Webinars and u20’s getting ready

Last week was a busy week for us as we rolled out more club online activities, prepared for our WP Rugby Women’s side in the finals, and supported international events.

After months of hard work, our DHL WP Rugby Women’s side played in the finals of the Women’s Premier Division against Border at DHL Newlands this past Friday. Although things did not go our way the entire squad deserves a tremendous pat on the back.

Not only have we seen a fantastic team effort from players and management on the field but also off the field as we’ve seen several of our squad promoting Women’s Rugby. We also commend our clubs who have supported their Women players to get to this level.

We will continue to build on the momentum gained for Women’s Rugby and will continue to seek Women Club Rugby representatives. Clubs are reminded to nominate at least one Women’s Rugby representative. Please click here to sign up

Last Monday saw us host the second in our club leadership workshops as we focused on the “Role of the Executive” at club level. The online session looked at the various roles of elected and co-opted Executive Committee members as well as the formulation of sub-structures such as commissions and committees. The substructures are particularly useful to assist with delivering on the clubs strategic objectives. We strongly recommend formulating these types of structures to not only help take the pressure off the Exco structures but also as an opportunity to bring more volunteers on board to support the club and prepare the next generation.

The next session for club leadership is scheduled for 27 July 2021 as we look at meeting preparation and delivery. The session will look at elements such as pre-meeting communication, preparing the agenda, chairing the meeting, and post-meeting communication.

This week Thursday 22 July 2021 we look at the skills of TV and online presentation presented by local Cape Rugby TV presenter JP Naude. Although many of you might not be planning a TV career these skills are particularly useful for YouTube, Streaming, and Online presentation. The session will include several aspects such as getting comfortable behind the camera, preparing your content and sound and lighting.  Next week sees us move to a much lighter side of rugby as we host our first online trivia quiz show. The quiz will include several trivia questions on club rugby sourced from our members. We expect the session to be great fun and encourage all to sign up.

Last week saw the start of the “Women’s Collective” this campaign is geared to promoting the development of WP Women’s Rugby by uniting all current and former WP Women’s Rugby players and management. We will shortly host our first meeting for this group of extraordinary Women.

Last week saw an excited WP Rugby u20 squad return to training after a week off and many of the players return from national duty. The squad training continues in preparation for the SA Rugby u20 Currie Cup.

This past weekend saw an exciting opportunity for our DHL Stormers side who tackled the British and Irish Lions at the Cape Town Stadium. Behind the scenes, we’ve been working hard to support SA Rugby in the rollout of these matches and we’re very excited that our members and fans have the opportunity to watch their favourite sport.
