We’re heading for another exciting weekend for WP Club Rugby, with our junior girls’ rugby teams unbeaten and the regional leagues nearly finalized.
The competition in Super League A is now at a high, with extremely small margins between the top six. Helderberg and Uni-Mil remain top of the log, with only points difference keeping Helderberg at number one. With UCT and Durbel each with a game in hand, things remain close. Hamiltons and Brackenfell will both know the importance of this week to find themselves in the top six when they face Helderberg and Durbel respectively. Meanwhile, False Bay, who had a close run against the log leaders last week, will be looking for all five points when they face NTK. Kuilsrivier and St Georges will also be looking for points to avoid the very threatening relegation, as they face UWC and Tygerberg respectively.
Hands and Heart will go into their match against Langa with the same urgency as they head into their ninth match of the season, knowing that CPUT, who are one position above them in sixth, still have two games in hand. CPUT this week host Bellville, who will no doubt be full of confidence after their win over Belhar last week.
Fans can expect a number of derby matches in Super League C this weekend, as Eersterivier face Macassar, Morning Star face Kraaifontein, and Scottsdene face log leaders van der Stel-Evergreens. Goodwood will be looking to secure the position at the top of the log when they face Pniel Villagers, who will know that Kraaifontein and Busy Bees are breathing down their necks.
Our regional leagues will reach a virtual conclusion this week when Titans face Rocklands in a positional decider in the Southern League. Titans need full points as Rocklands still have a game in hand. Sir Lowrians will go into the weekend relaxed, knowing that their position as number one is secure, as Strand United and Whistling Wheels in second and third place have played their full league lineup.
In the City League Gardens, Elsies River United and Manenberg Rangers can take a pat on the back, having also secured their positions in the much-awaited top nine promotion league, which sees the top three from each division compete for promotion and relegation.
In the Paarl region, the match between Young Standards and Paarl Rangers looks promising, while Lower Paarl and Allandale also promise to be nail-biters. Standards come off a narrow loss to Young Gardens, and Lower Paarl will be looking to gain some much-needed log points.
Elsies River United Ladies this week face CPUT Ladies, while second on the log, UWC Ladies host current log leaders Kuilsrivier Ladies in the Women’s league.
We extend our congratulations to our DHL WP Rugby U18 and U16 girls’ teams, who had a great run at the SA Rugby U16 & U18 Girls Weeks in Johannesburg this week, with both teams finishing their campaigns unbeaten.
Our members who currently have their World Rugby Level One certificates are reminded of the World Rugby Level One coaching course to be held at Newlands next week. If you have yet to sign up for the course, you can do so now by clicking on this link.
On a final note, we wish all our members a fantastic rugby weekend and trust you remain safe on the road as we head to the end of the school holidays.
