Clubs making statements

 

In Super League A, Durb-Bell continued their dominant run with a convincing 43–26 home win over Stellenbosch. The result keeps Durb-Bell firmly at the top of the log with a perfect record, while Stellenbosch remain in the lower half of the table. Hamiltons also made a strong statement with a 57–24 win over Kuilsrivier, securing a bonus point with their high try count and moving up to second place. Villager edged UCT 26–25 in a nail-biting contest, both teams earning four points, but Villager now sit tied for second with UCT, just behind Hamiltons on points difference. SK Walmers and Helderberg played to a 25–25 draw, which sees both sides remain mid-table, with Helderberg holding onto sixth place. UWC’s 32–40 home loss to Brackenfell was a setback, and they now drop to 13th, while Brackenfell climb to 9th, showing signs of resurgence.

Super League B saw several tight contests and a few surprises. Macassar pulled off a crucial 27–22 away win over Bellville, moving up to third on the log, while Bellville drop to 13th. Hamediehs narrowly beat Goodwood 34–32 in a thrilling encounter, maintaining their unbeaten run and climbing to second. Hamlets edged CPUT 29–28 in another close game, helping them rise to sixth, pushing CPUT down to 12th. Franschhoek earned a valuable 23–18 away win at Hands and Heart, keeping both teams in the lower half. Primrose’s 38–26 win over Kraaifontein was a significant result, moving them up to 7th and keeping the top six race tight. NTK were dominant in their 45–14 away win over Vineyards, jumping to fourth and solidifying their playoff hopes.

In Super League C, All Saints held onto top spot with a narrow 19–15 win over Delft, who remain in third. Caledonian Roses edged Busy Bees 20–17 in a tight home contest, moving up to 10th, while Busy Bees stay 12th. Scottsdene Central kept their title hopes alive with an 18–12 away win over Eersterivier, maintaining second place. Langa and Atlantis played to a 33–33 draw, both sides sharing points in a high-scoring affair, but remain outside the top six. Pniel Villagers and Violets also drew 21–21, keeping both teams in the mid-table mix. These results mean the top three of All Saints, Scottsdene, and Delft remain unchanged, but the mid-table battle is heating up.

The City League saw Blue Jets edge Elsies River United 10–8 in a low-scoring but important win that keeps them at the top of the standings. Silverleaf beat Silvertree 24–15 to climb into 7th place, while Silvertree remain near the bottom. With Blue Jets now on 19 points and a strong points difference, they continue to set the pace in the league.

In the Northern League, Raithby Universals continued their unbeaten run with a 39–14 win over Excelsior, staying top of the table. Sir Lowrians also kept their perfect record intact with a 28–16 away win over Stellenbosch-Coronations, holding second place. Windmeul United delivered the biggest win of the weekend with a 74–7 demolition of Gordons Bay Pioneers, moving them into third and showing their attacking prowess. The top three are now pulling away from the rest of the pack.

The Southern League produced high-scoring affairs. Rocklands defeated Titans 50–22 away, moving up to second on the log. Watsonia were equally impressive with a 49–25 win over Fisantekraal, keeping their unbeaten streak and top spot intact. Northerns beat Peninsula 46–33 in a match that saw both teams score multiple tries, but Northerns now climb to third, while Peninsula remain in the bottom half.

In the Paarl Region, Lower Paarl continued their dominant form with a 50–40 away win over Paarl Rangers, staying top of the log. Paarl Rangers drop to fourth as a result. The attacking display from both sides made it one of the most entertaining matches of the weekend. Lower Paarl remain unbeaten and look set for a strong finish.

The Metro League saw Temperance-Cities cruise to a 36–0 away win over Thistles, earning a bonus point and moving up to second. Thistles are still looking for their first points of the season. Temperance-Cities’ strong defensive performance was a highlight, and they now look like serious contenders.

In the Women’s League Division 1, Brackenfell Women edged UWC Women 15–12 in a tight contest. Both teams remain in the top four, but UWC Women’s first loss of the season sees them drop from first to second. Brackenfell Women’s win keeps them in the playoff race.

Across the leagues, several clubs are starting to build momentum. Durb-Bell, Hamiltons, and Raithby Universals remain unbeaten and are setting the standard in their respective leagues. On the other hand, teams like UWC, Stellenbosch, and Hands and Heart are struggling to find consistency. The weekend also saw a number of close finishes, with three matches decided by a single point, showing how competitive the leagues are becoming. Bonus points for tries are proving crucial in the log standings, and clubs will be focusing on both attack and defence as the season intensifies.
