Clubs jostling for position before heading into the final phases.

This midweek saw some crucial games play out as False Bay scored a 52 – 10 win over CPUT, pushing them to fourth on the log, while Durbanville scored a 61-20 win over SK Walmers. This result keeps Durbanville in a strong position. These positions were however short-lived as Villagers beat CPUT 43-8 and Tygerberg beat Kuilsriver 39-12 on Friday.

Kraaifontein jumped back up to second on the log with their midweek win over UWC and will look to go above Hands & Hearts when they face a struggling Kylemore. This Friday saw Hands & Heart score a narrow 21-19 win over Vineyards. There is most certainly a lot of talk about the Belhar versus Hamdiehs game as they go head-to-head. Belhar has found their groove this season and Hamdiehs have made an excellent start to their entry into Super League B. Both teams will, however, know that a win for Franschhoek over Bellville will see one of them drop out of the top six to a possible seventh place. Bellville, on the other hand, plays their final match this weekend and although they have left their charge for the top six a bit late, there is no doubt the pride factor will keep them in the game.

Super League C has the widest set of opportunities across all the leagues, as even down to as far as position eleven on the log is in contention for the top six. Goodwood and Macassar have been playing musical chairs with the top spot and now Primrose is also in the top three. Friday saw Maccasar score a 50-14 win over Eersterivier to keep them at the top of the log. This close league will have Young Peoples worried as they have exhausted their matches, even though currently fourth on the log. Busy Bees’ 39-32 win over Pniel Villagers put them back in the hunt, but with a bye this weekend, they will have to sit back and watch. Masiphumelele and Strand United have only three matches left, but most likely more pressure on Masi as they have a slim chance to get above Strand United, but several matches will have to fall in their favor. Strand United lost by only one point to Eerste River (20-19) and this week faces Rangers who scored a 22-20 win over Young Peoples. These permutations make any predictions virtually impossible and bring even more excitement to our season.

In the Promotion league, we saw Blue Stars, Caledonian Roses, Delft, and Violets secure victories last week with the results being that Violets, Blue Stars, and Albions occupy the top three spots respectively. This week saw Albions go down narrowly to Sir Lowrians (20-14), now Violets host Delft, Caledonian Roses travel to Watsonia, and Blue Stars to Silvertree. Meanwhile, in the Challenge Cup, it was a 34-20 win for Stellenbosch Coronations over Elsies River United. This positions Stell Cor at the top of the Challenge Cup log followed by Gordons Bay Pioneers. Pioneers take on Windmeul United and Imiqhayi face Stell-Corr.

With this being Women’s month and Friday being Women’s Day, we continue to celebrate our Western Province Rugby Women on all fronts, our player administrators, coaches, and referees who have made us so proud on all fronts. Last week saw Busy Bees Women score a 24-14 win over Brackenfell in the Women’s first division. Elsies are currently top of the log followed by Kuilsrivier in division two while Bellville is ahead of the pack in Division one.
