Letter from WPRFU
Dear WP Club Rugby member
As we are now days away from closing the book on another successful chapter in Western Province Rugby. This year has again seen our members rise to the occasion and deliver amateur rugby to the members and fans of WP Rugby.
It is worth noting that all of our members together delivered hundreds of successful club and school rugby matches, but behind the scenes, we witnessed the administrative mechanisms of our members again on several levels.
The nature of these mechanisms, which have been driven by our members, who are primarily volunteers, included lots of administrative meetings, delivery, and upskilling of coaches and managers and additional officials on a weekly basis. Not only did our members deliver all these administrative mechanisms to ensure successful weekly fixture delivery, but we also saw a greater increase in supporting our referees, youth development, and the growth of women’s rugby.
The efforts of our members did not go unnoticed as this year we again saw an increase in exposure for WP Club Rugby and amateur rugby in general as we gained record numbers in our TV audience and various social media platforms.
It’s been particularly exciting for us to see that the educational workshops delivered over the past few years have now manifested themselves and converted into the empowerment of our club structures. This is clearly illustrated by seeing how many of our clubs now have dedicated media and sponsorship personnel, many of whom have already secured exposure and sponsorship for their clubs.
Our leadership workshops too have paid off, and we now see a new level of club rugby administration and governance form our clubs and their several committed members.
The above again shows that we are heading in the right direction, and as such, we will build upon this as we bring more value-add offerings to our members early next year.
There are many more positive aspects of Western Province Rugby we could highlight here, but suffice to say that each and every one of our members is reminded of the pride they should carry into the festive season and beyond as we collectively are Western Province Rugby, and the value we bring to South Africa and the communities we serve is immeasurable.
Although we know many of our clubs have already begun pre-season training, but are now resting the players until the first week in January, we are also aware that this is the time that most of our members work on their various administrative matters. This is then a kind reminder to all our members that we are currently looking at several compliance and good governance factors of which you have all been notified; please follow up on this as a matter of urgency.
On a final note, I wish you a joyous and blessed Christmas and trust you will have time to spend with your loved ones and remind everyone to stay safe on the roads.
Best Regards
Danny Jones
