This weekend is set to be an action-packed weekend for rugby fans in Western Province as a series of thrilling matches are scheduled to take place. With our DHL Stormers in the URC final and already a win for our DHL Women’s rugby side along with intense battles in Western Province Club Rugby, fans can expect a rugby extravaganza.
In the highly anticipated Super League A match, Uni Mil will face off against Villagers, both teams eager to secure a victory. Uni Mil, currently ranked 12th on the log with 5 log points, will enjoy the advantage of playing on their home ground at Theo Marais Park. Villagers, on the other hand, stand at the 5th position on the log with 15 log points and are riding high after a narrow win over UCT. With Uni Mil looking to climb the log, this clash promises to be an intense battle.
Another intriguing encounter in Super League A will see Brackenfell taking on Hamiltons. Brackenfell, fresh off a win over Hamlets, will be determined to maintain their winning momentum. However, they cannot afford to make the same mistakes against Hamiltons. On paper, Brackenfell seems to have the advantage with a solid 60% win rate and an average of five tries per game.
This weekend Hamlets have the Mamre fans close at by as they face St George’s, who currently sit at the 8th position on the log with 9 log points. Hamlets, ranked 15th on the log with 2 log points, will need to bring their A-game to overcome their higher-ranked opponents.
In Super League B, close matches include Strand going head-to-head against CPUT at Gustrouw. Strand, currently positioned 7th on the log with 9 log points, will look to secure a victory against CPUT, who stand at the 9th position with 8 log points. With both teams relatively close on the log, this match could potentially be a tightly contested battle.
In another Super League B clash, SK Walmers, who are already showing their intention after their big win over Paarl and are 5th on the log with 10 log points, will face Hands & Heart, currently 6th on the log just one position below them with the same number of log points. The game will take place at the Greenpoint Track, which provides an ideal opportunity for fans to enjoy the URC final and some great club rugby.
Langa will face a tough challenge against All Saints, who hold the 2nd position with 15 log points. The match at Langa Stadium will test Langa’s resilience as they seek their first log points of the season, while All Saints will aim to maintain their strong position on the log.
Numerous other matches are set to take place in the Super League C, Northern League 2023, City League 2023, Southern League 2023, and Paarl Region. Amongst others, fans can expect big games such as Goodwood, still unbeaten and number one on the log, facing Kraaifontein. Eersterivier will host Scottsdene, and Peninsula will go up against Titans in 6th and 7th place on the Southern League log, with both teams currently scoring an average of three tries per game.
The Paarl region will see a top-of-the-table clash between current log leaders Young Gardens and second-placed Young Standards. Young Standards are only two points behind Young Gardens on the log and are currently scoring more points when they play away than when Young Gardens is playing at home.
