This past weekend saw another exciting round of Western Province Club Rugby, with several leagues experiencing important movement as teams continued their push for league honours, a top-eight finish and to avoid the bottom four.
In Super League A, Villager strengthened their hold on first place with a thrilling 42–39 away win over False Bay, while Helderberg’s dominant 150–5 victory over Van Der Stel lifted them into second. SK Walmers climbed to fourth after beating Primrose 45–17, Tygerberg remained in the hunt for the top eight with a 33–20 win over Kuilsrivier, and Brackenfell’s convincing 61–13 victory over Union Milnerton kept them within touching distance of the teams above.
Super League B saw Belhar move into second with a 34–29 win over Collegians, while Macassar remained top after defeating All Saints 26–13. Hands and Heart climbed into the top eight with a 64–26 victory over Violets, NTK strengthened their position with a commanding 74–5 win over Young Peoples, and Vineyards and St Georges shared the points in a 32–32 draw.
Kylemore climbed to second in Super League C after defeating Busy Bees 40–21, while Eersterivier moved into fifth with a 52–17 win over Atlantis. Pniel Villagers consolidated their place in the top four with a 47–29 victory over Strand, and Langa boosted their campaign by overcoming Strand United 43–5.
In the Southern League, Retreat defeated Blue Jets 17–12 to move into third, Peninsula climbed to fifth with a 50–17 win over Imiqhayi, and Titans edged Rocklands 20–19 to keep themselves in touch with the top eight.
Paarl Rangers were the big movers in the Paarl Region after edging Riverstones 28–27 to climb into second, while Lower Paarl maintained top spot with a 31–24 win over Violets Paarl. Simondium also impressed with a 39–29 away victory over Drakenstein.
The Northern League delivered another high-scoring weekend as Fisantekraal stormed into second with a 108–6 victory over Excelsior. Morning Star defeated leaders Blue Stars United 21–18 to close the gap at the top, while Blakes continued their rise with a 53–33 win over Gordons Bay Pioneers.
Silverleaf strengthened their hold on sixth place in the Central League with a convincing 48–12 victory over Bishop Lavis.
With only a few rounds remaining, every point is becoming increasingly valuable as teams continue their pursuit of league titles, top-eight finishes and the equally important task of staying clear of the bottom four, and aiming at the top 8.
