Super League A produced one of the biggest shake-ups of the season so far, with significant movement inside the top six. One of the standout fixtures of the weekend saw South Africa’s two oldest rugby clubs renew their historic rivalry as Villager’s defeated Hamiltons 36–22 at Green Point. The derby, which was broadcast live on Cape Town TV to viewers across South Africa, delivered on its billing as Villager’s crossed for six tries to secure a memorable victory. The result lifted Villager’s from third to second on the log and level with Stellenbosch on 32 points, while Hamiltons slipped out of the top six to seventh.
Durbell’s excellent 36–28 away win over Stellenbosch was equally influential, lifting them from sixth to fifth while dropping Maties from second to third. Tygerberg’s 17–17 draw with SK Walmers proved enough to move them into sixth place, completing a significant reshuffle of the playoff positions.
False Bay produced one of the performances of the round, hammering Franschhoek 57–19 at home with nine tries and a full five-point haul to move from ninth to eighth. Kuils River’s entertaining 46–40 win over UWC also earned maximum points, although UWC’s two bonus points helped them leapfrog Franschhoek into 12th place.
UCT remain at the summit on 36 points, but the chasing pack has tightened considerably behind them.
In Super League B, the biggest changes came around the all-important top-six positions. Belhar edged Hamediehs 20–17 at home to climb from seventh into sixth place. NTK suffered a costly 35–33 home defeat to Kraaifontein, dropping from fourth to seventh as Kraaifontein jumped into fourth after their away victory.
Collegians strengthened their playoff ambitions with a 26–15 win over CPUT, securing a four-try bonus point and moving from sixth to fifth. Macassar maintained their hold on first place with a hard-fought 21–16 win over Bellville, keeping them on top of the standings with 34 points.
The thriller of the weekend came at Goodwood, where Vineyards claimed a dramatic 47–45 away victory in a match that produced 14 tries. Vineyards collected the full five points and moved up to ninth, while Goodwood earned two valuable bonus points despite defeat. Hands and Heart also improved their standing with a 37–21 victory over Hamlets, climbing to eighth and keeping the mid-table battle wide open.
Super League C saw the chasing pack close the gap behind leaders Rangers. Watsonia’s 38–29 away win over Langa, built on five tries, propelled them from fifth to second and level on 28 points with Pniel Villagers. Pniel secured an important 18–10 victory over Eersterivier to maintain their challenge.
Scottsdene’s six-try 37–27 win over Atlantis moved them from sixth to fourth, while Raithby Universals surged from tenth to seventh after a commanding 44–0 victory over Kylemore. Kylemore suffered the biggest setback of the weekend, falling from second to fifth, while Eersterivier dropped from fourth to sixth.
Although the top six remained unchanged, the order was significantly reshuffled and the race behind Rangers tightened considerably.
In the Southern League, Masiphumelele continued to set the pace with a dominant 59–17 victory over Titans. Their nine-try performance extended their lead at the top to 34 points and reinforced their status as the team to beat.
Blue Jets edged Young Wesleys 21–19 in a tightly contested encounter to move from third into second place. Young Wesleys secured a losing bonus point and remain fourth. Lagunya’s 17–0 win over Peninsula lifted them from sixth to fifth, while Rocklands’ 24–10 away victory over Retreat carried them into the top six. Peninsula slipped to seventh, and Retreat dropped from second to third after their home defeat.
Northern League leaders Blue Stars United maintained their unbeaten record with a convincing 31–12 win over Stell/Cor, scoring five tries and extending their lead at the top to 43 points.
Fisantekraal remain firmly in contention after a 51–10 victory over Cloetesville, collecting another bonus point in the process. Faure’s 30–23 win over Police Blackheath proved particularly valuable, as their four-try bonus point lifted them from sixth to fifth place. Stell/Cor moved in the opposite direction, dropping from fifth to sixth following their loss to Blue Stars.
The composition of the top six remained unchanged, but positions continue to shift within a tightly packed middle group.
The Central League witnessed a change at the summit. Elsies River United stormed to a 45–0 victory over Suburban, scoring seven tries and moving from second into first place on 36 points, one ahead of Manenberg Rangers.
Young Stars also made progress with a narrow 30–27 away win over Silverleaf. Both teams scored four tries, with Young Stars climbing from fourth to third. Silverleaf’s two bonus points helped them move above Young Ideas into ninth place. Despite their heavy defeat, Suburban remain sixth, meaning the top six stayed intact while the battle near the top intensified.
The Paarl Region competition produced several important results around the top six. Albions’ 29–25 victory over Paarl Rangers saw them score four tries and move into fifth place from outside the top six. Paarl Rangers retained second place thanks to a valuable losing bonus point.
Riverstones were outstanding in a 62–24 away win over Drakenstein, crossing for ten tries and surging into fourth place. Lower Paarl strengthened their position in third with a 32–29 victory over league leaders Young Gardens. Despite the defeat, Young Gardens remain top by a single point.
Violets Paarl’s 19–17 win over Young Standards tightened the race below the leading group, with Albions entering the top six and Young Standards slipping to seventh. Riverstones and Albions now sit level on 27 points, highlighting just how competitive the division has become.
In Women’s League Division 1, Brackenfell Women made an early statement with a 37–15 victory over CPUT Women, scoring five tries and securing a full bonus-point haul. Belhar Women edged St Georges Women 14–10 in a closely fought contest, while Blue Jets Women recorded an impressive 34–7 win over Up and Under Women.
