In Super League A, the biggest movement came near the top of the table as Durbell’s 83–0 home win over Union Milnerton, built on 13 tries and a full five-point return, lifted them from third to second above UCT. Villager’s 80–9 home success against Tygerberg, with 12 tries, kept Villager firmly in first place and added more pressure to the chasing group, while Tygerberg slipped down to sixth. Helderberg’s tight 24–23 away win at Brackenfell was one of the standout contests of the round and moved Helderberg up from seventh to fourth. SK Walmers also made a useful gain with a 34–20 home win over Hamiltons, collecting a four-try bonus and helping push Hamiltons out of the top six and down to seventh. False Bay’s dramatic 49–47 away win over Primrose was another high-scoring thriller, with both teams scoring seven tries and both taking bonus points, while UWC’s 33–29 away win over Franschhoek, driven by five tries, strengthened their position in the lower half and kept them in touch with the sides above.
Over in Super League B, Collegians produced one of the strongest away performances of the weekend by beating Macassar 48–36, scoring six tries and taking the full five points to climb from fourth to second. Macassar stayed top despite the defeat because their five tries still brought a bonus point, but the gap behind them has narrowed. NTK’s 63–26 away win over Goodwood, powered by nine tries, carried them from seventh into sixth and into the top six, while Kraaifontein’s 36–34 away victory at Hamlets lifted them from sixth to fifth. That left Belhar dropping from fifth to seventh without playing, which shows just how tight the middle of the log has become. Hands and Heart also improved their position with a 35–32 away win over Hamediehs, their five tries securing the extra point, Vineyards edged Young Peoples 28–27 at home to stay close to the leading group, St Georges beat Bellville 31–24 to move upward in the lower half, and Violets’ 46–42 home win over CPUT was an all-out attacking contest with both sides scoring eight tries and both sides taking bonus points.
In Super League C, Rangers changed the look of the top of the table with a 50–22 home win over Langa, scoring eight tries and collecting five points to move from second into first, which dropped Watsonia to second without a match this round. Gardens also made an important move by winning 57–20 away at Strand United, with nine tries carrying them from sixth to fifth, while Eersterivier’s 61–13 away win over Caledonian Roses, also built on nine tries, lifted them from eighth into sixth. Those results pushed Scottsdene out of the top six and down to eighth. Pniel Villagers remained firmly in the leading group after their 23–18 away win over Sir Lowrians, while Delft’s narrow 37–38 home defeat to Strand still brought two bonus points and kept Delft right on Scottsdene’s heels. Busy Bees’ 57–35 home win over Atlantis was another open game full of scoring, and Strand’s one-point result helped them move up one place to 13th ahead of Langa.
In Central League, Manenberg Rangers stayed clear at the top after a commanding 78–0 home win over Young Stars, running in 12 tries and banking the full five points to strengthen their hold on first place. The most important movement around the top six came from Silverleaf, whose 21–10 home win over Temperance-Cities lifted them from seventh to sixth and pushed Temperance-Cities down to seventh and out of the top six. Suburban’s 95–3 home win over Thistles was the biggest score in the league this round, with 15 tries earning a maximum return and keeping Suburban within touching distance of the teams above them.
The Northern League produced a major reshuffle behind unbeaten Blue Stars United. Faure’s 48–19 home win over Blakes, with eight tries from the home side, lifted Faure from third to second and dropped Blakes from second to fifth. Fisantekraal also moved up after a 35–23 home win over Stell/Cor, their five-try performance taking them from fourth to third, while Morning Star’s 85–3 home win over Excelsior pushed them from fifth to fourth. The top six itself stayed unchanged, but the order inside it tightened significantly. Lower down, Gordons Bay Pioneers’ 41–26 home win over Cloetesville moved them up to ninth, while Whistling Wheels’ 10–5 away win at Police Blackheath in a defensive battle kept them eighth and sent Police Blackheath down to tenth.
In Paarl Region, Lower Paarl’s 43–23 home win over Paarl Rangers was the key result at the top, with seven tries and a full bonus-point return helping Lower Paarl strengthen first place while Paarl Rangers slipped from second to fourth. Perel United’s 28–17 away win over Albions was equally important in the race around the top six, because the four-try victory kept Perel United in fifth and dropped Albions from sixth to seventh. Violets Paarl’s 31–21 away success at Windmeul United, also with a four-try bonus, kept their outside hopes alive in eighth and left Windmeul United ninth. Elsewhere in the standings, Young Gardens and Riverstones both moved up into second and third respectively, which has made the chase behind Lower Paarl even tighter, while Young Standards held onto a top-six place.
The Southern League had only one completed result in this set, but it still affected the log. Rocklands’ 27–18 home win over Titans moved Rocklands from sixth to fifth, while Peninsula were edged down to sixth without playing. Titans remained eighth after another loss, and the result kept the pressure on the teams battling for the last places inside the top six.
In Women’s League Div 1, Brackenfell Women made the strongest statement with a 42–19 home win over Blue Jets Women, scoring six tries and taking the full five points to move within one point of the leaders. Blue Jets Women stayed level on 21 log points with Busy Bees Women, but the defeat meant they could not pull clear at the top. UWC Women also made a notable jump by beating False Bay Women 36–0 at home, a six-try performance that lifted them from sixth to fourth. The 7–5 result between Elsies River Women and St Georges Women showed the other side of the competition, where tighter, low-scoring matches can be just as important in shaping momentum.
In Women’s League Div 2, Collegians Women edged Hamiltons Women 17–15 in one of the tightest matches of the round. Neither team reached the four-try mark, so there was no attacking bonus, but Collegians Women took the main reward from a narrow home win while Hamiltons Women at least collected a losing bonus from a two-point defeat. Results of that type often prove significant later in the season when the table begins to separate.
Across the latest round, bonus points had a major influence on the log, with several teams not only winning but doing enough through tries to gain an extra point, while a few losing sides stayed in the conversation through narrow-defeat bonuses. Coaches at the leading clubs will be pleased with the attacking output, especially in the high-scoring games, while teams on losing runs will be looking for tighter defence and stronger game management after a weekend that delivered both one-point thrillers and a number of very heavy winning margins.
