Women’s finals Super League promotion relegation

City Park last weekend we saw our Women’s Rugby finals as well as the promotion and relegation games for our Super Leagues.

The day got started with Brackenfell Ladies up against Bellville Ladies, with Brackenfell coming out on top and crowned as the WP Rugby Women’s League champions. Following the day’s opener, we saw Goodwood up against Strand in a vital match for both sides as Strand were seeking to avoid relegation to Super League C and Goodwood eagerly looking for promotion into Super League B. Strand took the halftime lead 7-0, but with the wind against them, tables turned in the second half favoring Goodwood to get the win and secure their promotion into Super League B.

The final match of the day saw Franschhoek again looking for promotion into Super League A and SK Walmers looking to avoid relegation. The end result saw SK Walmers secure the win and their place in Super League A, as was expected, doing so with their fans in support and once again showcasing the love for Western Province Club Rugby.

This weekend sees the passion continue with some big games on the cards, and notably the Paarl Region going into their finals as old rivals Lower Paarl and Paarl Ranges again go head to head. This final comes about after Paarl Rangers’ one-point 35-34 win over Young Gardens and Lower Paarl’s 39-27 win over Young Standards.

The drive continues for promotion into Super League C as the promotion cup races in with Delft and Violets still the front runners. This weekend sees Caledonian Roses face Albions, Silvertree face Watsonia, Sir Lowrians host Violets, and Delft travel to Young Wesley’s. Watsonia will have to win with five points and then some to get on top of Delft and will have to hope that Delft do not secure any points in their next two games. The same could be said for Caledonian Roses, who could technically still get to twenty-seven points, again with the unlikely scenario of both Delft and Violets not scoring any points. Considering all these permutations, all things point to the fact that matters will most likely be concluded this weekend, making this weekend’s games all the more exciting.

On the Gold Cup front, Helderberg got off to another good start as they secured a 43-22 win over Kruisfontein United and this weekend host Kimberly at the Charles Morkel Stadium on Saturday, kickoff at 15:00.

This weekend sees us host another World Rugby course in that we present the Level One Strength and Conditioning course and our next course being the World Rugby Level One Fifteens course at Newlands on 11 October 2024.
