In Super League A competition, a rested False Bay and Hamiltons go head to head at Philip Herbstein Field, this weekend. False Bay is currently sixth on the log and will face an unbeaten Hamiltons. Brackenfell, who narrowly lost 31-38 to Tygerberg last week, will travel to Kuilsriver. With both teams in the bottom five of the log, this will be a tough encounter. Helderberg will look to improve while Kuilsriver, who had some good runs against Durbell last week, are still seeking to get points on the board after their loss to log leaders Durbell. This weekend, Villagers will face Helderberg at Brookside Villagers, CT. Additionally, Uni-Mil is set to clash with St Georges at Theo Marais Park, Milnerton. Tygerberg will take on SK Walmers at Florida Park. St Georges still have a number of games in hand while Uni-Mil has already played eight and is well past the halfway mark. These teams will know that teams like CPUT, SK Walmers, and Helderberg still have plenty of opportunities this season to up their log points tally, so the pressure is on the top log teams to grab the points while they can.
Belhar scored a 25-18 win over Kraaifontein last week, moving them up to fifth on the log just behind the Kraaie. This week, Franschhoek will clash with Belhar at Groendal, Franschhoek. Last week, Langa showed a 42-17 win over Bellville with five tries versus three, and although toward the bottom of the log, it clearly shows that they are making an effort to avoid the relegation zone. Kraaifontein this week hosts Collegians at Kraaifontein Sports Grounds. Last week, Collegians played against Hamlets, resulting in a 30-22 win for Collegians, who still have two games in hand. All Saints narrowly went down to Vineyards last week, with both teams scoring five tries and ending in a 29-34 win for Vineyards. Other matches this weekend include Strand versus All Saints at Gustrouw Sports grounds, Vineyards hosting Hamediehs, and Van der Stel hosting Langa.
In the Super League C, Masiphumelele will clash with log leaders Macassar at Noordhoek. Macassar is currently unbeaten. Goodwood, currently third on the log, travels to sixth place Gardens while Eersterivier takes on Young Peoples at Kleinvlei Sports grounds. Rangers will clash with Primrose at Surrey Estate. Primrose, who is fifth on the log and unbeaten, faces Rangers in what some might consider a derby. This week, Busy Bee versus Paarl at Langa Stadium, while Strand United and Blue Jets go head to head to move away from the relegation zone, as will Scottsdene who face second place and also unbeaten Pniel Villagers.
In the City League, we see a top of the table clash as log leaders Elsies River United go head to head with Violets at Chukker Road. Both teams have lost only one match this season and have only a single point separating them at the top of the table. With only nine teams in this league, this will be the penultimate match before knowing who is in the top three for the promotion league. Caledonian Roses are unbeaten, and all three of the former teams will know that Morning Star still have a game in hand and could upset the apple cart. Morning Star faces Silvertree at Morning Stars Sports grounds, while Police will clash with Manenberg Rangers at Terry Terblanche.
We see a similar picture in the Northern League where Delft and Albions seem on track for the promotion league, but with ten teams in this league, there is still some room for movement. Delft is unbeaten and will look to increase the gap as they face Sir Lowrians. Meanwhile, Gordons Bay Pioneers will take on Raithby Universals at Naval Sports Grounds, Gordons Bay. Stell-Cor and Whistling Wheels will both know that this weekend could be a turning point to stay in the mix.
In the Southern League competition, unbeaten Rocklands will clash with log leaders Young Wesleys at Rocklands Sports Grounds. Titans take on Peninsula at Fairmount High School, and Young Stars will face Retreat at Greenpoint Track. Second on the log, Watsonia will host Lagunya at Vygieskraal.
This weekend sees the halfway mark for some of the Paarl teams who are on a break this week before they go into the second round.
Last week, in the Metro League competition, Temperance-Cities took the bragging rights with a 19-17 win against Perseverance. This week, they host Lamotte Wanderers and Progress hosts Thistles at City Park while Perseverance will look to redeem some pride when they see Fisantekraal at the same venue.
