Another action-packed weekend of Western Province Club

Another action-packed weekend of Western Province Club Rugby delivered plenty of movement across the various competitions, with league leaders strengthening their positions and several clubs making important moves as the race for league honours continues.

In Super League A, Durbell and Brackenfell produced one of the matches of the season as Durbell claimed a thrilling 45–40 victory. The winners crossed for seven tries while Brackenfell replied with five of their own, ensuring both sides left with valuable bonus points. Durbell’s full five-point haul lifted them into third position on the log, while Brackenfell remained 10th despite collecting two points from a highly competitive performance.

SK Walmers continued their climb up the standings with an impressive 30–19 away victory over Stellenbosch. Four tries helped secure the result and moved SK Walmers into ninth place, while Stellenbosch slipped to fourth. Tygerberg also strengthened their position with a 29–19 win over Franschhoek, collecting a full five points and moving into fifth place.

Hamiltons produced a powerful attacking display to defeat UWC 55–40 away from home. The victory moved Hamiltons into sixth position, while Helderberg slipped to seventh. False Bay maintained eighth place after edging Kuils River 27–22 in another closely contested fixture. At the top of the standings, Villager remain first with UCT holding onto second place.

Super League B continues to tighten considerably, particularly through the middle section of the standings. Macassar remained at the summit following a hard-fought 24–20 away victory over Kraaifontein. The result pushed Kraaifontein down to sixth and leaves little room for error as the competition remains tightly contested.

Vineyards recorded one of the standout away victories of the round, defeating All Saints 31–27 in a match where both teams scored four tries. The win lifted Vineyards from ninth to eighth. Belhar edged NTK 36–33 in another entertaining contest, moving up to fifth place after securing both the win and a bonus point. NTK remain seventh and within touching distance of the teams above them.

Collegians strengthened their campaign with a 28–18 victory over Hamlets to move into fourth place. Bellville’s narrow 28–26 win over Goodwood lifted them to ninth, while CPUT continued to impress with a convincing 38–10 victory over St Georges to consolidate third position. Violets also collected a valuable 14–10 away win over Hamediehs.

Super League C saw some of the biggest movements of the weekend. Watsonia moved to the top of the table after securing a 31–19 away victory over Busy Bees. Four tries and a maximum five-point return allowed them to leapfrog their rivals and take control of first place.

Rangers remained firmly in contention after defeating Scottsdene 27–22, while Kylemore slipped from first to third despite not featuring among the listed results. Gardens produced one of the most entertaining victories of the round, defeating Pniel Villagers 51–40 in a 13-try thriller. The result lifted Gardens from eighth to sixth.

Delft also made ground with a 27–24 victory over Strand United, climbing from ninth to seventh. Atlantis strengthened their position with a 27–23 win over Sir Lowrians, while Raithby Universals closed the gap on the leading group after a dominant 45–14 victory over Caledonian Roses. With Watsonia, Rangers and Kylemore separated by only a handful of points, the battle at the top remains wide open.

The Northern League again delivered several dramatic finishes. Blakes edged Fisantekraal 35–34 in one of the closest matches of the weekend, scoring six tries to five. The result strengthened Blakes’ hold on second place while Fisantekraal remained third.

Stell/Cor secured a crucial 20–19 victory over Morning Star to maintain sixth position, while Faure consolidated fifth place through a strong 40–26 away win over Cloetesville. Leaders Blue Stars United continued their impressive form with a commanding 43–7 victory over Excelsior. Police Blackheath’s 12–10 away win over Gordons Bay Pioneers saw them move above their opponents on the standings.

In the Paarl Region, Riverstones made one of the biggest statements of the round with a dominant 48–10 victory over Young Gardens. The result significantly reshaped the standings, with Young Gardens dropping from first to third while Riverstones closed the gap on the leaders.

Paarl Rangers strengthened their title challenge with a 40–31 victory over Windmeul United in a match that produced 11 tries. The win lifted Paarl Rangers into second position, while Lower Paarl moved to the top of the standings following the latest allocation of points. Young Standards continued to push up the table after edging Perel United 32–29, while Albions strengthened sixth place with a 32–27 away victory over Violets Paarl.

The Southern League’s leading sides all continued their strong form. Masiphumelele maintained first place after defeating Rocklands 36–27 away from home. Blue Jets remained second with a 26–15 victory over Peninsula, while Young Wesleys kept pace in third after overcoming Lagunya 32–13. Retreat’s convincing 36–5 away win over Khayelitsha reinforced their hold on fourth position and kept them firmly in the hunt near the top of the standings.

In the Central League, Elsies River United continued to set the pace with a 27–10 away victory over Young Stars. Northerns produced the most dominant performance of the weekend, overwhelming Temperance-Cities 66–5 after crossing for ten tries.

Silverleaf claimed one of the surprise results of the round by edging Silvertree 25–24 away from home. The result lifted Silverleaf from eighth to seventh while Silvertree remained fourth after collecting two bonus points. Young Ideas also moved up the standings following a convincing 38–12 victory over Bishop Lavis.

Women’s League Division 1 tightened further at the top after both leading sides secured maximum points. Busy Bees Women recorded a 20–0 away victory over Brackenfell Women, scoring four tries in the process. Blue Jets Women matched that effort with an impressive 41–15 win over CPUT Women after crossing for seven tries. The result leaves Busy Bees Women and Blue Jets Women level on 21 log points at the top of the standings. False Bay Women also enjoyed a successful weekend, defeating Belhar Women 24–5.

In Women’s League Division 2, Hamiltons Women recorded a strong 31–12 victory over Eersterivier Women after scoring five tries. Collegians Women also secured a valuable away result, defeating Rocklands Women 26–0 while keeping their opponents scoreless. No result was available for the Delft Women versus Gardens Women fixture.

With the 2027 competition restructure drawing closer, every point continues to carry significant value. The bottom four teams in Super League A, Super League B and Super League C will move into the league below as part of the new structure, making the battle at both ends of the table increasingly important. Once the league phase has been completed, clubs in the Super Leagues will split into Top 8 and Bottom 8 competitions to determine the remainder of the season. At the same time, league title races across all divisions remain fiercely contested, ensuring that every round of fixtures continues to shape what promises to be a fascinating second half of the campaign.
