This past weekend, saw an exciting weekend of rugby with more than 70 games taking place across the Province. In Super League A, Hamiltons and Kuilsriver played out a thrilling 22-22 draw, while Brackenfell defeated Maties 28-17. NTK managed to secure a narrow 14-7 win over Hamlets, while UCT overcame False Bay 27-21. Villager secured a comfortable 33-3 victory over St George’s while Helderberg lost 31-29 to Durbel. Uni-Mil scored a 26-11 win over Tygerberg.
In Super League B, All Saints defeated Young People’s 38-25, and Bellville secured a convincing 28-0 win over Paarl. Franschhoek beat Hands & Heart 19-5, while Belhar narrowly defeated Kylemore 21-15.
In Super League C, Goodwood secured a close 24-19 win over Eersterivier, and Macassar overcame Kraaifontein 27-17. Van Der Stel-Evergreens RFC narrowly defeated Busy Bees 10-6, while Blue Stars managed to secure a 15-13 win over Albions. Pniel Villagers played out an exciting 17-17 draw against Blue Jets, and Scottsdene won 21-10 over Masiphumelele.
This week sees an exciting match-up between UCT and Brackenfell on Wednesday, with UCT hosting Kuilsriver on Saturday. And there are some official friendlies in action as Strand United host Caledonian Roses, and Police RFC travel to Rocklands.
This week sees plenty of women’s and girls’ rugby action. On Thursday, we have a festival of Western Province Girls High School girls’ rugby at City Park, with twelve U18 and U15 teams playing in fifteens rugby, as well as a number of teams playing in the tens format. The first games start at 9 am with Excelsior Secondary, Bellville South High School, Spine Road High school, and DF Malan across all three fields.
Thursday also sees another festival of women’s rugby, as we see the Elsies River Women’s Rugby Tens in action, with Bellville, CPUT, Riverside, Eersterivier, Young Good Hopes, Northlink College, and Elsies River in action.
Juniors will begin their Craven Week trials at the Bellville High School this week. Several of these players have already had a taste of the things to come having had some training opportunities at our WP Rugby High Performance Centre in Bellville.
The World Rugby referees courses for the remainder of the year have been announced, and the next course will be the World Rugby level one fifteens course is at Newlands on 19 May 2023. Click here to sign up now
Our DHL WP Rugby u19 team takes on the Leopards in the SA Rugby U19 Cup at the Hamilton’s Rugby Club on Saturday at 14:00 and this gives fans the perfect opportunity to then go across to the Cape Town stadium and watch the DHL WP Rugby Currie Cup side in action against the Vodacom Bulls at the Cape Town Stadium at 18:30 in the Currie Cup.
