Club rugby players and coaches have remained active

The past few days have certainly been interesting as we awaited the announcements from the government as well as our various rugby mother bodies.

Although the government has now announced a phased release of the lockdown there is still much to assess with regards to the world of sport and in particular WP Club Rugby. We will however not be taking our foot off the gas to keep you busy with rugby activities. During this time we will assess our options to get club rugby back on the park in a manner which is dependent on the various safety guidelines.

SA Rugby has in the meantime announced that several international and national events will continue as from June with a “return to train and play” readiness plan, but this is dependent on Government advice and decisions as the pandemic evolves. All club and community rugby is postponed until further notice and SA Rugby reiterated its plea to all clubs, teams, players and coaches to adhere to the lockdown rules.

We’re happy to say that our club rugby players and coaches have remained active and continue with their online fitness challenges.

On the coaching front, we’re most grateful to SA Rugby for making their online workshops available to our coaches. Several coaches have joined via Microsoft Teams and have been able to engage with questions ion this platform.

Our DHL Stormers team has got behind the Pick n Pay ‘Feed the Nation’ initiative, making a collective donation of R50 000 from their own pockets and encouraging the DHL Stormers Faithful to support the programme, which provides food and basic hygiene essentials to the most vulnerable during the lockdown period. The players meanwhile are training at home and in fact, managed to move all the gym equipment from the HPC to their homes where they have been able to keep their fitness and conditioning at a reasonable level.

We’re happy to say that behind the scenes we are actively engaging with our sponsors to ensure they remain engaged and included with our various activities. One of these is off course Africa Bank. African Bank is available to help our players, coaches and fans with financial planning. To find out more please visit them online here.

On a final note, we wish all our Muslim fans, players and administrators a blessed month of Ramadan.

Please also be reminded that the lockdown remains firmly intact and is there for your protection. We urge everyone to adhere strictly to the regulations issued and to stay isolated and follow all health and safety precautions.
