In WP Club Rugby midweek action, Maties thumped UWC 70 – 0 as they continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Last Saturday the regional trials for the APC Emerging WP Team took place with 4 teams from the Southern League, Northern, City, and Paarl that played against one another at City Park.

The Selectors, Max Makapela (City League), Warren Isaacs (Northern League), Johan Arendse (Southern League), and Ganief Dulvie (Paarl Region) under leadership of Jerome Paarwater selected 35 players for the next round of trials in their search to select 2 teams that participate in the APC Tournament being hosted in Cape Town in August.

The DHL WP team demolished the Border Bulldogs 50 – 34 as they continued their upward trajectory.

This weekend the DHL WP team take on Boland in a Western Cape derby in Veldrift hoping to retain their unbeaten run which kicks off at 15h00 on Saturday.

The WPRFU Women’s Rugby department was hard at work on Freedom Day as they were preparing for the WP Girls u13, u16, and u18 tournaments. By all accounts they did a fantastic job as the tournament was a big hit amongst our girls. Last Saturday the newest members of the WP Women’s Elite Squad will be selected and have begun training with their coaches.

The DHL Stormers overseas has not gotten off to the best start as they went down first to the Crusaders and then to the Highlanders. We are sure that the boys will come back firing when they take on the Hurricanes which kicks off on Friday morning.

There are several other exciting club rugby fixtures on the go this weekend as clubs strive to maintain form and fitness. Be sure to follow #wpclubrugby on Facebook and Twitter to follow all the activity!
