WP Club Rugby round three set to go. Maties and CPUT expected at Newlands

In celebration of our Varsity Cup victories with Maties winning the Cup and CPUT winning the Shield both these teams will be doing a lap of honour at Newlands just before the DHL Stormers kick off against the Bulls at 3 pm on Saturday.
This Friday night sees Union-Milnerton take on Maties at the Danie Craven Stadium. This match will be Maties first league match this year, and Uni-Mil will know that they have their work cut out for them as they come up against the Varsity Cup Champions.

UCT, who are two wins from two matches and are currently second on the Super League A log travel to Durbanville on Saturday to play in what will arguably be their toughest encounter in this early part of the season.

All other Super League A matches will go ahead as scheduled excluding Victorians vs False Bay.

In Super League, B Collegians will host Helderberg at Sandvlei as the Lentegeur fields are not in a playable condition. Helderberg has their tails in the air at the moment after their high scoring win over Rangers, but as we know Collegians, who are full of running rugby, they will most certainly be up for the challenge.

The match between Vineyards and Bellville is likely to go down to the wire as the former comes off a big win over All Saints and Bellville beat Busy Bees, who themselves are a tough outfit.

Super League C will see Kraaifontein take on Strand United and Pniel Villagers host Mannenberg Rangers. Mannenberg Rangers and Kraaifontein will be keen to get their first win on the board.

The City League will see some clubs play two matches over the next five days primarily to allow our Muslim clubs to squeeze in some games before the holy month of Ramadaan.

Police will host the current log leaders Progress at Pinelands, and will be looking to bounce back after their loss to Hamediehs. Hamediehs will have an exciting week ahead as the face Western Zebras who last beat Silvertree. No doubt this will be a measuring match for Hamediehs as they face Silvertree on Wednesday night. These two teams have a long-standing rivalry, and you can expect a derby atmosphere.

In the Southern League Retreat will still be smarting a bit after their rivalry loss to Peninsula and will no doubt give Young Stars a run for their money.  Midweek matches next week will see Stars play Thistles and CPUT up against Titans on Wednesday night.

The Northern League will also see a few derby style matches this weekend. Fans can expect the match between Blakes and Stellenbosch Coronations to go down to the wire as these neighbours look for bragging rights. The Sir Lowrians vs Whistling Wheels match is also an exciting draw for local fans.

In the Simonsberg Region, the Gordon Leopards are top of the log with two from two and will face Excelsior, while Phizantekraal takes on Faure.
The wonderful world of refereeing is still looking for officials. Rugby lovers are reminded that not only are you able to stay involved in the game and contribute to the sport they love but can earn up to R1000 per week as a referee. For more information please click here

Coach Jerome Paarwater this week took his SuperSport challenge squad on a one day camp to Hermanus in preparation for their match in against the SWD Eagles this weekend. There are 12 local club players in the 30-man squad, which also includes a number of players who featured for Maties, UCT and UWC in the Varsity Cup. Jerome’s management team includes Nazeem Adams as Backs Coach, Rito Hlongwani who just helped win the Varsity Shield at CPUT as Forwards Coach, defence Coach Chris October, Strength and Conditioning Coach Naasier Parker, Technical Analyst Elliot Hanabe and Manager Cassiem Barnes.
