WP Club Rugby News

This week WP Club Rugby fans will see some big games, as a number of match-ups are very close on log points. The division leagues with slightly less teams and fixtures than the Super Leagues have crossed the half way mark in the season and are now playing for pride.
Unbeaten Blue Stars United took pole position on the log after their 38-20 win over Windmeul United. This week they come up against rivals Van der Stel – Evergreens who has been leading the log for most of the season. Blue Stars have a game in hand and will want to cement this lead while VDS-E will be keen to justify their new sponsorship. For highlights and interviews of this match you can watch Cape Rugby TV on Cape Town TV, DStv ch 263 on Wednesday night at 9pm.
In Super League A Durbanville-Bellville host unbeaten Brackenfell and will want to stretch their lead at the top of the log while Brackenfell who have a game in hand will know that every point counts, as they still have to tackle the higher log point clubs later in the season.
We have a similar match up in the Paarl League as unbeaten log leaders Young Standards face Allandale away. These one and three log position match up will certainly be a good game to watch in the Paarl region.
In Super League C, Scottsdene Central and Busy Bees sit in precarious positions as they are six and seven on the log respectively. The winner here will certainly jump to the top of the log with an eye on promotion, while the loser will know that the top three spots could just be a reach too far.
SK Walmers showed that they have brushed off the rust with an emphatic 26-19 win over Super League A runners up Hamiltons over the weekend. Playing at “The Track” has never been easy for visiting clubs and Hamiltons will know they missed an opportunity.
Union Milnerton will be looking to go ahead of Stellenbosch into fifth place on the log this weekend when they face off against NTK. As always you can expect a big turnout at Belhar as they face Tygerberg at Belhar.
In Super League B it will be a tough day on the park for Pniel Villagers as they face log leaders Kuilsrivier at home, and the match between Vineyards and Franschoek will also be a big one as Franschhoek could jump into the top three.
There are some tough games for Watsonia and Temperance and Cities as they face log leaders Masiphumelele and Police respectively in the City League. Watsonia come off a 66-0 loss to Progress and will want to do better than that.
We could see a change in log leadership in the Southern League as second place Noordelikes take on tenth place Young Brothers, while leaders Retreat are on a bye.
As mentioned Northern League one and two, Blue Stars United and Van der Stel Evergreens, will be a big game, as will Raithby United vs Strand Pioneers, perhaps not so much from a log perspective, but rather as a derby which will see two teams from the same neck of the woods go head to head.
