Biggest WP Club Rugby weekend. Currie Cup and Womens Rugby at Florida Park

This weekend we see our highest volume of WP Club Rugby matches scheduled for any weekend this year. In addition to plenty of exciting club rugby, we also see u21 Currie Cup and Women's rugby action at Florida Park.
For many WP Club Rugby teams, this weekend will be one of the most important of the season as it could be their last chance for the top six.
There is no doubt that UWC, Tygerberg and Uni-Mil fans will be on the edge of their seats this weekend and waiting to see the results between Tygerberg and Stellenbosch and Uni-Mil and Brackenfell. There are several permutations which include Tygerberg needing a win to be safe, as anything else will allow Uni-Mil to jump into sixth place should they get the result they need against Brackenfell. Should Tygerberg and Uni-Mil win then UWC will know that their final league season match will be a must-win against SK Walmers next weekend.
WP Club Rugby fans will be happy to know that the u21 DHL WP Currie Cup side will be playing at the Tygerberg RFC ground in Ravensmead before the main club rugby game.
At the bottom of the log, NTK is simply too far behind Paarl on points difference to avoid the promotion-relegation play-offs. They now face Paarl in a match that could see them both end equal on log points.
The excitement continues in Super League B as we see a scramble for positions one and two as well as the top six. It’s a one and two clash as Kuilsrivier host Hamlets. Hamlets come off a 31-26 win over St Georges and will be full of confidence, but with the advantage does lie with Kuilsriver who has home ground advantage and have a higher home average than Hamlets away. Bellville will be looking for a win against All Saints to secure the second spot if Hamlets does not have their way.
Belhar play their final match against Busy Bees this weekend in what can also be considered a must-win to stay in the tops six as St Georges, Vineyards and Helderberg all still have one match in hand. St Georges now travel to Vineyards while Helderberg host Goodwood. Vineyards and St Georges both have an equal fifty percent win rate this year, but the favour lies with St Georges who are scoring an average thirty-eight points away versus Vineyards average at home of thirty-three.
This weekend Super League C also sees some big matches as the race continues. Strand United host Langa and will be desperate for a positive result as Morning Star is breathing down their neck. Morning Star faces Elsies River. Elsies will bring it all as they will be looking to avoid the relegation zone which is now very much between Elsies, Kylemore, Raithby and Blue Jets.
We again see the cross league challenges in the promotion league this weekend as Peninsula travel to Stellenbosch to face Blakes and Albions travel to Violets. The latter is expected to be a humdinger as these two teams are now two and three on the log respectively. City League outfit, Violets come off a 55-15 win over Blakes while Albions who ended second in the Northern League will be confident after beating Masiphumele, also from the City League 28-20.
Fans can expect an exciting match between Simondium and Perel United, and even though lower on the log these two teams are old rivals. In addition, the match between Allandale and Paarl Rangers could turn out as a good match for fans.
It’s a one-two clash in the NFL League as we see Silverleaf host Young Brothers. A win for Brothers will see them move to the top of the log with Temperance-Cities one log position off the pace.
This weekend our DHL WP Currie Cup side travel to Bloemfontein to face Free State in a very important match. Kick-off at 5pm.
I’d like to wish our DHL Western Province Women's side the best of luck as they will be looking to continue their unbeaten run this season when they face Eastern Province Women in the final league game of the SA Rugby Women’s Interprovincial Competition on Saturday. This match will play out at 12:30 just before the u21’s also at Tygerberg RFC in Ravensmead.
