WP Club Rugby Wrap – Week 3

WP Club Rugby was back after the Easter Break as clubs took to the field in round three of the WP Club Rugby season on Saturday.
 
In Super League A, defending champions False Bay picked up a big win over UCT as they surged to the top of the SLA standings following their 58 – 7 demolition job on the Ikey Tigers.

They are joined at the top of the log by Hamiltons who were equally impressive in their 59 – 12 win over NTK. Brackenfell round up the top three as they defeated UWC 27 – 22 in a tightly contested affair.

In results elsewhere, Durbell’s meager start to the season continued as they slipped to another defeat at home to neighbours Tygerberg who ran out 37 – 25 winners. Union-Milnerton went down 28 – 38 at home to SK Walmers, Primrose defeated Pniel Villagers 47 – 13 while Belhar edged out Vics 34 – 33 in a thrilling contest.

SLB league leaders Villager defeated St Georges 24 – 8 at Brookside to maintain their 100% start to the season. They are trailed by Paarl who were equally impressive in their 38 – 11 win over Sir Lowrians on Saturday.

Helderberg made it two wins out of two win a fantastic 41 – 22 away win at Bellville, Hands & Heart defeated Collegians 33 – 25 at Eikendal, while Young Peoples edged out Rangers 44 – 43 in Paarl. Hamlets maintained their form of last season with a solid home victory of 36 – 31 over SLA relegation team Kuilsriver while Kraaifontein proved too strong for Violets running out 31 – 10 victors.

Vineyards’ fairytale start to life in Super League C continued as they picked up their third win in succession as they downed Hamediehs 49 -17 in Paarl on Saturday. Hot on their heels are Macassar who picked up a solid away win against Busy Bees as they ran out 27 – 16 winners.

In results elsewhere in SLC, Kylemore defeated Raithby Universals 29 – 19, Scottsdene beat Elsies River 39 – 13, Young Stars came from behind to beat All Saints 29 – 26, while Strand defeated Lagunya 28 – 5 while Goodwood and Strand United played out to an exciting 27 all draw.

In the Paarl league, defending champions Lower Paarl scored a solid victory over Albions 27 -11, Blakes Easter tournament champions Allandale continued their form with a win over Paarl Rangers 24 – 21 while Young Gardens put a solid victory of 15 – 11 over Young Standards.

In City League action Temp/Cities defeated Young Ideas 35 – 25, CPUT Gardens went down 18 – 24 to Silvertree while Manenberg Rangers scored a good 34 – 14 victory over Progress. Callies beat Police 18 – 10 while Masiphumelele totally outplayed Perseverance winning 62 – 9.

In the Northern League Blue Stars United demolished Khayelitsha 122 -14 scoring 18 tries in the process while Whistling Wheels proved much too strong for Blakes winning by 34 – 14. Blue jets beat Stel/Cor 36 – 12.

In the Southern League Northerns scored a good away victory to Retreat beating the hosts 22 – 17. The competition also witnessed 2 exciting draws. Hosts Thistles kept Peninsula to a 20 all draw while Titans and Rocklands played to a 14 all draw.

There is some great midweek club rugby action to look forward to on Wednesday night as Vics take on Maties while UWC host UCT in a local derby.
