Tygerberg and False Bay get Gold Cup campaigns off to a winning start

The Gold Cup kicked off this weekend and WP’s two representatives could not have hoped for a better start.
Both Tygerberg and False Bay secured two impressive home wins and threw down a serious marker to the rest of the teams in the competition in the process.

False Bay ran in seven tries on their way to a 43 – 19 win over Boland Champions Roses United at the Phillip Herbstein.

Winger Danie Roux ran in four tries to underline his class while Mustaqeem Jappie, Riaan Olivier, and Tapiwe Tsomondo also got on the score sheet for the impressive False Bay.

Tygerberg meanwhile showed the watching world why they are not a team to take lightly as they ran out 54-27 winners over EP champions Gap Management Progress Uitenhage at Florida Park on Sunday.

The 11-try thriller had the watching supporters up on their feet and both teams were applauded off the park at the final whistle.

Keagan May, Gary Williams, Dale van Schalkwyk, Christo van Wyk all scored for the hosts while Shameegh Allen bagged himself a brace of tries.

Tygerberg next travel to George to take on Progress SWD while False Bay are in Kathu to take on Sishen.

Both games take place on Saturday 16th September.
