Franschhoek United stun St Georges to reach President’s Cup Final!

Franschhoek United pulled off a major upset on Saturday as they defeated Super League B Champions St George’s 31 – 29 at Gustrouw in their President’s Cup Top 6 semifinal.
The win denies St George’s their place in the President’s Cup final while Franschhoek United were rewarded for their never-say-die attitude to secure their final berth.

Franschhoek United have been the quiet achievers of a frantic Super League B season, finishing in a commendable sixth position.

They can now look forward to the President’s Cup final after another thrilling win.

Their opponents are no stranger to the President’s Cup having won the tournament in thrilling fashion last season. Hamlets will once again take their place in the final having beaten Villager 42 – 36 in their semifinal clash at Brookside on Saturday.

Tries from Dalyn Arends, Ashwin Prins, Brynn Gericke, Nicky Fortuin, and Isaak Davids sealed the win for Gavin Passens’ men.

In the Bottom 8 competition, Rangers will play Young Peoples in the final after both club won their semifinal matches this weekend.

Rangers defeated Hands & Heart 43 – 31 while Young Peoples edged out Kraaifonteini 35 – 34 in a thrilling contest.

The Final of the President’s Cup Top 6 Competition takes place on Monday 25th September at City Park.
